A breathtaking view of San Diego’s La Jolla coastline, where harbor seals rest peacefully along the sandy beach and rocky shoreline beside the brilliant blue Pacific Ocean. Golden coastal cliffs, rolling waves, and the seals in their natural habitat create a beautiful scene that represents Southern California’s unique marine wildlife and natural beauty. The La Jolla Children’s Pool is a well-known harbor-seal viewing area, and nearby Point La Jolla is especially known for California sea lions.

The Plastic Ocean

My concept focuses on plastic pollution in the ocean. I plan to use my original ocean photograph and create a realistic wave containing plastic bottles, bags, and discarded packaging. I want the plastic to appear naturally caught in the water instead of looking digitally pasted onto the photograph. The final image will show how everyday waste can eventually become part of the natural environment.

The final hyper-realistic composite shows an ordinary faucet releasing its final drop of water while the sink below appears unnaturally dry, cracked or drought-stricken.

This photo represents drought and water scarcity. I will blend the cracked earth into the sink area to make it appear as though the sink has become completely dry.

This photo represents the final drop of available water. I will use it beneath the faucet to help create a realistic scene showing the importance of water conservation.

My concept focuses on water scarcity and conservation. I want to create a realistic image of a faucet releasing one final drop of water while the sink below transitions into dry, cracked earth. I will blend the different photographs together so the final image looks like a real photograph instead of an illustration. My goal is to show how valuable water is and encourage people not to waste it.

Nature Can’t Breathe
My third concept focuses on air pollution and its effects on nature. I want to create a realistic landscape where a healthy green environment gradually changes into a polluted area with smoke, dead branches, and an unhealthy atmosphere. I will blend the photographs carefully so the transition looks like it was captured in one real photograph. My goal is to show how pollution can slowly damage the environment around us.

This photograph represents the damage that pollution and environmental changes can cause.

Smoke/Smog:
I will blend this photograph into the sky to create a realistic polluted atmosphere.

Factory:
This photograph represents one source of industrial air pollution.

Landscape:
This will provide the natural environment and background for my final composite.
